Brief Introduction：Department of Physics of Jiaotong University was originally found in 1928 and merged into Faculty of Science in 1930. In 1937, Faculty of Science was renamed School of Science. Because of the university reorganization and relocation, the School of Science was broken off for a time. In 1994, School of Science was reformed which includes Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. In 2020, the physics discipline was independently formed School of Physics. School of Physics is always the important support for the university predominated engineering schools, and has assisted to build major of semiconductor, nuclear physics, and etc. In the history of 90 years, the school insists on the ideam of “top-grade core courses teaching, top-grade fundamental scientific research”, and has collected lots of distinguish scholars, such as Weiyu Qiu, Fuxin Zhao, Youxun Wu, Baishi Wu, etc. by whom lots of excellent students were cultivated.

Currently, School of Physics is a research school consisting of 3 departments and 2 teaching divisions: applied physics, material physics, optical information technology and science, college physics, physics laboratory. It also includes national talented student class and national intensification class in physics. The school has a faculty and staffs of 158 people including 127 full-time teachers, of whom 42 are professors, 55 are associate professors and 30 are lecturers and assistant professors. It has 21 lab technicians and 10 staffs. The school has 1 national distinguished scholars, 2 distinguished teachers, 4 excellent young scholars and 3 talent young scholars. It also has 10 state excellent scholars.

The School has 3 key teaching centers: National engineering college physics teaching base, National college physics lab teaching demonstration center, and Shaanxi province physics discipline lab teaching demonstration center. Moreover, School has 5 key research facilities: MOST International Joint Research Center for new materials, MOE Key Laboratory for Non-equilibrium Synthesis and Modulation of Condensed Matter, Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Advanced Functional Materials and Meso-Physics, Shaanxi Key Laboratory for Quantum Information and Quantum Optoelectronic Devices.
